Resisting Routine?

We often feel resistance to having a routine or getting into a routine, or even trying to establish a routine but—they provide structure and they allow us to be more productive with the time we have—if that is something that matters to us.

This year has been a bit all over the place for me because I have been away from home for three and a half months all up, so I have allowed my routines to get out of wack. In fact, I'm not even sure what they look like anymore.

Having a routine though, is about being organized and making sure you do what needs to get done, when it needs to get done.

That may sound easy but if you're not used to doing things that way, it takes a bit of effort to get into the habit of it all.

Getting organized and having routines go hand-in-hand. If you have a system for your organization whether it's for organizing your kitchen cupboards, your closet or your digital files, once you've decide how you want to organize them and you get into the routine of doing that organization the same way each time you go to put something away in your wardrobe, kitchen cupboard or your digital filing system, everything stays organized and each time you follow the same steps, it takes less time and effort.

Being organized and having a system for how you want to organize things makes life easier if you get out of your routine, like I have.

Now that I've been home for a bit and I'm settled in again, I'm starting to get back into my routines and finding that yes, I need to get the brain cells going to remember exactly how I was doing things, but because I have systems set up for organizing my digital world, getting back into the routine of doing things is SO much easier because the structure is there already.

I know when I start writing my next newsletter, I write words in the Newsletter part of my OneNote, on the next page, using the numbering system I've already established with the naming conventions I use for my Newsletters

Because I have my system already set up, I don't have to reinvent the wheel before I can get going, so I have saved myself time and the frustration of not knowing where to start.

Establishing routines can be difficult because often it involves stepping outside our comfort zone to get them going but the time and future effort they save, are worth it!

Having a routine and being organized also brings a sense of calm and being in control of your life, both things we all need!

Enjoy the rest of your week and take a look at how having routines and being organized can make your life easier!
